Job Summary

Manages a team of professionals responsible for analyzing technical accounting issues by researching, evaluating and preparing well-documented position papers on the company's transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations. Manages the activities of individual contributors with accountability for goals, objectives, and operational policies.

The Manager, Technical Accounting & Policy, will play an integral role in interacting with and advising Sprint’s senior leadership team on technical accounting matters related to US GAAP and IFRS. This position reports to the Director of Technical Accounting.

This position supports the Company's US GAAP and IFRS compliance by determining and documenting the proper accounting treatment for complex and non-routine transactions and maintaining the Company's accounting policies. This position will have significant involvement in areas to include, but not limited to, revenue recognition, leases, rebates and incentives, purchase accounting, asset-backed securitizations, consolidation, and intangibles. The ideal candidate must be versatile, proactive and client-service oriented with a strong desire to learn, grow professionally and lead change/process improvements.

Although this position will have Managerial duties it will not have any direct reports. We manage projects and teams made up of individuals throughout the organization.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Foster an environment of strong ethics, morale, leadership and teamwork. A key member of the management team who contributes to and effectively influences decisions
  • Monitor the activities of accounting standard setting bodies (i.e. FASB, IASB, AICPA, and EITF) and the SEC and prepare operational/financial impact assessments of proposed and adopted accounting standards and SEC regulations. Assist with the preparation of comment letters for exposure documents which are relevant to the Company.
  • Partner with various departments to implement technical accounting guidance, as well as new/revised accounting policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with senior executives, finance directors and other internal stakeholders to understand the business and ensure timely exchange of information.
  • Identify and resolve the Company's technical accounting issues by researching, evaluating and preparing well-documented position papers on the Company's transactions, legal contracts, and other business practices/initiatives.
  • Provide accounting support for M&A activities, including supporting due diligence efforts by evaluating accounting policy risks, reviewing agreements, participating in developing the accounting positions and supporting the integration of accounting operations of acquisitions.
  • Interact with external auditors on technical accounting issues and assist other departments in the support of annual audits and quarterly reviews, as deemed necessary.
  • Manage technical accounting tools made available to constituents across the organization.
  • Assist departments with the review and preparation of the annual and quarterly financial statements.
  • Lead the annual impairment review of intangible assets and long-lived assets.
  • Prepare and present training and other presentations on a variety of accounting/SEC topics to constituents across the organization.
  • Participate on ad hoc projects.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and eight years related work experience or twelve years related work experience post high school
  • Five years accounting experience
  • Three years supervisory or management experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance related area
  • CPA Certification
  • Eight years of work experience, Big 4 public accounting experience with large SEC registrants
  • Demonstrated clear proficiency in SEC reporting and accounting research
