Job Summary

Plans, designs and implements networked systems of very large scope and very high complexity. Provides engineering services and project management functions required to develop and implement very complex network plans. Projects include technology changes within the platforms, new implementation guidelines and/or standards. Analysis includes switching, interconnection, national platforms and backbone facilities. Conducts project planning, cost analysis and vendor comparisons.
Install, integrate, configure, and test new DNS and DHCP network software and hardware technologies by translating detailed network requirements or strategic business objectives into test requirements, test cases, and expected results. Work within a lab environment to test different use cases and configurations to verify DNS and DHCP functionality prior to being implemented in Sprint’s production network. Position requires an understanding of the DNS and DHCP network functions and how DNS interworks with Sprint’s Evolved Packet Core and LTE call setup. Create and modify scripts to assist with the automation of lab test case execution.

Work on problems of medium to high complexity where an understanding of network applications, IP protocols, call flows, and interfaces are required to be successful. Prepare, review, and test a Method of Procedure (MOP) document outlining steps to install, configure, and deploy new hardware and software in Sprint’s production wireless network after lab testing has completed. Provide assistance during maintenance windows during software and hardware upgrades. Requires the ability to explain technical issues and solutions in terms that management level individuals can understand.
  • Experience working in a development lab environment conducting test case execution using tools like Breaking Point or Spirent or custom scripts.
  • Working knowledge of the LTE evolved packet core (EPC) and how DNS and DHCP interoperate with the EPC and with network equipment such as switches, routers, and firewalls, including how the IP routing is configured from each device from an end-to-end perspective.
  • Understanding of dynamic routing protocols such as BPG and Anycast.
  • A working knowledge of the OSI Model and TCP/IP Protocol Architecture Layers protocol design is required.
  • Experience conducting IP packet capture analysis and network protocol dissection using tools such Wireshark to resolve lab and production issues is a must.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and four years related work experience or eight years related work experience post high school
  • Three years network engineering experience
  • Three years project management and project implementation experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • CCNA and CCNP certifications are desired
  • Competency using Microsoft Office applications including VISIO and MS Project
  • On hands experience using Linux OS and CLI commands
  • Ability to write scripts to automate test procedures or data collection processes
  • Familiarity with IXIA/Breaking Point or Spirent Test Tools
