Job Summary

Plans and facilitates changes for plant, working toward economy of operation, maximum use of facilities and equipment, and compliance with laws and regulations. Coordinates with engineering firms and external agencies in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation and other related costs. Inspects construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules. Develops criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes.
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of Sprint’s 26k miles of backbone and MAN fiber optic networks and leased facilities that interconnect to Sprint’s network.
  • Budget, forecast, design, engineer and oversee Sprint fiber cable relocations/protection projects to eliminate potential conflicts with 3rd party construction activities. Replace degrading fiber optic cables before network outage occurs.
  • Support the Trans Ops technicians to restore all fiber network outages (cable cut) caused by train derailments, natural disasters, rodents, man made and other within ten hours or less in order to minimize service impact to the customer.
  • Ensure the Sprint General Maintenance Agreement (GMA) Contractor is notified and mobilized within two hours of damage notification.
  • Manage the CRC/PWT process for funding to support Sprint cable relocation projects. Provide guidance as to the financial responsibility of each funding request. Manage projects to completion and provide project forecasting to support Sprint Finance Department.
  • Review GMA construction contractors’ invoices for accuracy and approve for Sprint payment when work has been completed
  • Must have valid driver’s license, three consecutive years of active driving history, successfully complete driver’s safety training, and otherwise comply with Sprint’s Driver Safety Policy and guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of both buried fiber optic cable and aerial spans
  • Ability to thrive in a 24/7/365 environment and respond quickly to events on the network

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and two years related work experience or six years related work experience post high school
• Two years experience with facilities drawings
• Two years experience preparing construction documentation
• Two years experience with facilities specifications
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Civil Engineering or equivalent education in that area of expertise.
