Job Summary

Plans, designs and implements networked systems of medium to large scope and moderate to high complexity. Projects include technology changes within the platforms, new implementation guidelines and/or standards. Analysis includes switching, interconnection, national platforms and backbone facilities. Conducts project planning, cost analysis and vendor comparisons. Provides customer solutions which encompass a broad range of engineering disciplines and technologies. Provides project management functions to develop and implement complex network plans to include technology changes within the platforms, new implementation guidelines and/or standards. Provides analysis for switching, interconnection, national platforms, and backbone facilities. Provides implementation and configuration support to ensure successful device and network installs, moves, adds, and changes.
This individual will sit in MEXICO CITY, MEXICO **

And will be responsible for the following:
  • Liaising with Vendors, Carriers and other departments to provide co-ordination for all local gateway issues and activities.
  • Maintaining local records of all equipment, physical terminations and interconnections in the suite, Site Vendor’s MMR Racks assigned to Sprint and office; and all local access circuit identifications matching Sprint system and database records.
  • Initiating and progressing management notifications for updates on Intermediate, Major and Critical fault progress.
  • Ensuring that all Activation and Service Restoration issues are escalated to the correct level with appropriate fix agencies.
  • Liaising with project management teams and Operations management team to co-ordinate migrations and other maintenance activities.
  • Co-ordinating and driving remote hands personal during installation, activation and service restoration activities.
  • Undertaking Health & Safety training and other training assessments.
  • Working with Operations management team to schedule gateway network maintenance activities.
  • Working with Customers for all local installation, activation and service restoration activities.
  • Logistical tracking and shipment organisation of test equipment, tools and spares.
  • Liaising with external companies and logistics departments to clear equipment from Customs.
  • Supporting planning and implementation of new POP sites, site equipment augments, site reconfiguration, and performing site surveys activities.
  • Liaising with Project management, planning, engineering and logistics to track installation project status and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate test and acceptance of network equipment and signing of ready for service notification.
  • Review of Network and customer circuit orders for correctness.
  • Physical installation of copper and optical fibre cabling including making off cable end terminations.
  • Physical installation of Pop site infrastructure, cabinet, rack, chassis and cards
  • Installation and maintenance of local craft terminal/OSS Net access to Pop site Telco equipment.
  • Test and Configuration of Digital Cross Connect equipment.
  • Test and Configuration of IP network equipment.
  • Physical testing of all local electrical data circuits.
  • Physical testing of all local optical data circuits.
  • Physical testing of integrity on ports, modules, cards, shelves and chassis for all network nodes.
  • Use of tool set, test equipment and PC applications to provide 1st and 2nd line support and remote hands assistance.
  • Onsite support for all Network/Customer Faults and Scheduled Maintenances.
  • Develop and implement POA to isolate customer and network circuit faults.
  • Develop and implement POA to isolate Pop site equipment and cabling faults.
  • Providing 24x7 On-call support according to a pre-arranged rota schedule.
  • Technical Escalation of fault once isolated in the Network to vendors and other sprint support teams.
  • Working with the maintenance teams, vendors and carriers to organise and request scheduled outages.
  • Scheduling of testing of local customer and network circuits for turn up.
  • Logical mapping of circuit path in Digital Cross Connect equipment.
  • Technical Escalation of local installation, activation and restoration issues to vendors and carriers.
  • Working with fault, activation and implementation teams to activate contingency bandwidth for Major Network outages.
  • Providing technical resource to other internal departments including technical support for network build, circuit activation and service assurance.
  • Travel to in-country and near-country customer sites to install or troubleshoot CPE.
  • Completion of Pop site equipment and cabling, preventative, routine maintenance.
  • Basic configuration of CPE equipment (Cisco)
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Updating internal systems and databases with installation project status, issues and redline documentation.
  • Review of internal systems to identify Pop site cabling activities and customer and network circuit orders. Updating systems upon work activity completion and highlight/resolve issues identified with internal partner groups.
  • Maintaining personal and group mailboxes to ensure all work activity and requests are actioned.
  • Updating internal systems with service delivery progress.
  • Capacity management of Pop site tie cables.
  • Scheduling of local access vendor maintenance activities/notifications through internal databases in order that customers are advised of impact to services.
  • Maintaining asset management databases for Pop site equipment.
  • Manage Repair and Return (RMA) process for faulty equipment.
  • Contributing to reports for Internal and Customer meetings
Tracking of gateway fault issues to provide updates for RFOs, customer trouble profiles and other statistics, including updating internal systems with fault isolation progress.
  • Arranging personal Hotel accommodation and travel
  • Arranging shipment of test equipment and maintaining DHL/UPS/FedEx booking records for all incoming/outgoing shipments
  • Arranging repair of test equipment.
  • Attending Operations meetings and Conference Bridges.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Telecommunications industry is required.
  • Ideally some experience in commissioning and faulting SDH transmission systems.
  • Understanding of Transmission theory and networking.
  • Experience of using, and interpreting the results from analysers and testers.
  • Competence in the Microsoft suite of Office products.
  • Understanding of IP networks in particular IPVPN and MPLS.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to organise self and own work load.
  • Experience with layer2 transport technologies in particular Carrier Grade Ethernet e.g. RFC-2544 testing
  • Experience with IP network configuration, ideally Cisco CCNA certified
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Telecommunications industry is required.

  • Clean driving Licence.
  • Some out of hours working will be required.
  • It is a requirement of the position that the incumbent is available to deal with call outs when required, outside normal working hours.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience or six years related work experience post high school
  • One year experience working with routers, bridges, concentrators and switches
  • One year experience with project management and project implementation

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years experience working with routers, bridges, concentrators and switches
