Job Summary

Provides radio frequency (RF) and/or wireless transmission design. Designs, plans and oversees installation and maintenance of wireless radio communications systems, including radio propagation modeling and prediction, microwave path analysis, interference analysis, frequency coordination, cell site equipment layout, parameter definition, and ancillary equipment. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures. Resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel.
Develop technology strategy and architecture for wireless backhaul. Create long term technology glide path and plan of intent for wireless backhaul. Conduct new technology evaluation and prototyping. Responsible for the identification and adoption of new, emerging wireless backhaul technologies that will be an integral part of the business's success. Ensures overall future network feature requirements are supported by cost-effective wireless backhaul solutions with alignment in roadmaps. Develops company objectives, strategies and principles. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments. Assists with standardizing the enterprise process for selecting new technologies.

Develop long term technology roadmap for wireless transmission networks while considering engineering standards, performance and availability in the Sprint production network. Lead the design of redundant, highly capable systems with regards to wireless transmission solutions. Ensure best practices are used in design, testing, and implementation of cost effective technical solutions.
  • 3-5 years subject matter level expertise in wireless backhaul technologies for 4G and 5G.
  • 3- 5 years wireless backhaul ecosystem, site deployment, and vendor management experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in wireless backhaul capacity planning, RF engineering, link budgets, radio level characterization (including operational/performance KPI testing and verification) and emission profile testing, traffic analysis and QoS, and OAM.
  • Requires expert knowledge of Sprint’s Transmission Engineering, Network Operations, and IP System Design.
  • Possess advanced level knowledge of Sprint’s uniquely developed products, processes and technologies (e.g. new fronthaul solutions such as CPRI.)
  • Expertise to integrate the Clearwire/Sprint networks (design topology and legacy network specific database expertise) while also outlining future technology strategies to the Sprint business.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and eight years related work experience or twelve years related work experience post high school
  • Three years RF engineering experience working with radio communications systems, including radio propagation modeling and prediction, microwave path analysis, interference analysis, frequency coordination, cell site equipment layout and parameter definition
  • Two years project management and project implementation experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree and/or Ph.D in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Familiarity with LTE and 5G RAN vendor ecosystem
  • Prior experience with operators on wireless backhaul
