Job Summary

Provides radio frequency (RF) and/or wireless transmission design. Designs, plans and oversees installation and maintenance of wireless radio communications systems, including radio propagation modeling and prediction, microwave path analysis, interference analysis, frequency coordination, cell site equipment layout, parameter definition, and ancillary equipment. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedure. Resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel.
The RF Engineer II is the technical resource for the market RF Engineering group and is responsible for the overall
deployment, expansion, and maintenance of the market.
  • This position requires thorough understanding of the details surrounding Radio Frequency (RF) network traffic studies, capacity management, optimization and performance of CDMA, EVDO, and LTE networks.
  • This engineer will participate in radio network design, optimization, and capacity activities; design, tune and optimize high capacity wireless CDMA, EVDO and LTE networks using RF engineering technologies.
  • Will utilize engineering tools such as cell planning tools, drive test data collection and post-processing tools, and network performance statistics monitoring and analysis tools; analyze network traffic and statistical information and provide recommendations for improvement; implement radio network features.
  • Prepare and review site configuration based on site survey data and traffic forecast; prepare and review cell and frequency plans and cell design data.
  • Perform RF Field walk tests of Sprint’s network including in-building coverage and Public Venue surveys, Support site walks and site surveys to confirm in field as-built configurations, Populate RF Design Sheets and Cell Information Questionnaires for network element augments.
Must have valid driver's license, three consecutive years of active driving history, successfully complete driver's safety training, and otherwise comply with Sprint's Driver Safety Policy and guidelines.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and two years related work experience or six years related work experience post high school
  • One year RF engineering work experience working with radio communications systems, including radio propagation modeling and prediction, microwave path analysis, interference analysis, frequency coordination, cell site equipment layout and parameter definition
  • One year project management and project implementation experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience providing optimization service for CDMA, EVDO, and LTE technologies.
  • Thorough knowledge of wireless systems performance and diagnostic metrics and their supporting statistical data from infrastructure nodes.
  • Experience with wireless infrastructure provider and/or operator is desired.
  • Proficient computer user including Microsoft Office, at least one programming/scripting language, and database applications.
  • Able to work effectively with others and have good interpersonal skills
  • Be highly organized and work well under pressure.
  • Able to work independently, as well as under supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills and be comfortable conversing with all levels of engineering and management teams.
  • Have excellent written, verbal and presentation skills to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
