Job Summary

Directs the activities in the research and/or development of technology relevant to an organization's future products, projects and programs. Collaborates with others on the direction of development relevant to long-term objectives and strategy.

** Location flexible, preferred locations are Overland Park Kansas, Reston/Herndon VA, or Bellevue WA**

Executive leader responsible for directing the evolution of Sprint’s mobile network architecture as we broaden our implementation of NFV and SDN, and drive down both 4G and 5G latencies with distributed edge computing for both core infrastructure and customer content and applications. Realize new capabilities and revenue opportunities in deep data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning while partnering with leading SoftBank entities and other third parties in the development of pervasive and mission-critical IOT use cases. Lead the development of long-term core network strategy and teams responsible for architectural development and new service ideation. Provide industry thought leadership, infrastructure for new technology evaluation and prototyping, and direction in the efforts to create, refine and evolve Sprint’s network core and services architecture.

Selected candidate should have:

  • A demonstrated record of both technical excellence balanced with strong, persuasive leadership skills
  • Five years of expertise in mobile network core technologies and services, for both LTE and emerging 5G capabilities, is essential, as is demonstrated knowledge of the IT and cloud proficiencies necessary for successful deployment of virtualized network functions at large scale
  • Ten years of technical expertise in traditional telecom systems engineering and extending beyond to software development and deployment
  • Five years of experience in a position requiring effective public speaking, industry thought leadership, and communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Five years of demonstrated experience in motivating senior system engineers, software developers, and architects to excellence, and building upon partnerships with internal Sprint business units and external entities to effect change and create a culture of agile collaboration.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and ten years related work experience or fourteen years related work experience post high school
• Five years of progressive management experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ten years of experience building and leading cross functional teams in the telecommunications industry

    >Five years of experience managing innovation efforts impacting internal CTO/CNO teams as well as leading external innovation efforts that contribute to Sprint’s leadership in the areas of core network design
  • Five years of experience in the areas of EPC, Volte, IMS
  • Five years of experience with new technology evaluation and prototyping
  • Five years of experience with strategy roadmapping and glide path planning for telecommunications and/or technical companies.
